Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon

Mr Akmal is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with a specialist area of expertise in Spinal Surgery.
He completed his undergraduate training in S Marys Hospital Medical School, Imperial College of Science technology and Medicine, London University, UK. His postgraduate training was completed in London and he completed a spinal surgery fellowship in Oxford at The John Radcliffe Hospital for acute trauma and The Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital for Elective spinal surgery. During his training, he worked in the Peripheral Nerve Injuries centre, Professorial academic unit and spinal unit at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, UK.

Mr Akmal is currently a full time Consultant in Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgery at St Marys Hospital, London and a Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College of Science, technology and Medicine. His specialist interests include Spinal Trauma, degenerative disease of lumbar and cervical spine, spine tumours and spine infection.

Mr Akmal is performing minimally invasive spinal surgery for most cases of lumbar and cervical disc prolapse and also performs a wide variety of spinal injections in the conservative treatment of low back and neck pain.Mr Akmal is one of the leading voices in the promotion of osteoporotic fracture prevention. He is a board member of The international Society for Fracture Repair and is actively engaged in an educational campaign for the early treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. He has been performing balloon kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty for vertebral compression fractures and is on the steering committee for the Osteoporotic Fracture Campaign.

Dr Christopher Jenner MBBS FRCA

Consultant anaesthetist and Pain Specialist

Dr Jenner is a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia St Mary's Hospital, London, W2. He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, London, SW7.

He qualified at The London Hospital Medical College in 1995. He trained in Anaesthesia at The London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals, where he developed a specialist interest in Pain Medicine.
He then underwent higher specialist training in West London, where his posts included being a Specialist Registrar in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at St Mary's, Central Middlesex, Chelsea and Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals.
He completed a Fellowship in Pain Medicine at The Royal Marsden Hospital, London.
He is Director of London Pain Consultants, which aims to provide pain-relief and rehabilitation, allowing restoration to a productive life.

Chris Pinches is a clinical specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist specialising in spinal pain.

He qualified from the University of Bath before undertaking extensive post- graduate education, including a Masters degree at University College London. He works closely with Mr Mo Akmal at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth and provides integration between medic and physiotherapists in the rehabilitation of people with spinal pain or those who have undergone surgery.
