Back pain can range from a mild and constant pain to sudden sharp stitches that hinder movement. The pain can arise suddenly, with a fall or when lifting something heavy. It can also worsen little by little.

Who suffers from back pain?

Anyone can suffer from back pain, but there are several factors that increase the risk of suffering it, among them:

-Aging: Back pain is more common as you get older. The pain may start between 30 and 40 years of age.

-Having a poor physical condition: Back pain is more common among those people who do not exercise regularly (sedentary lifestyle).

-Increase in weight: A high in calories and fat diet can make you gain weight. Being overweight can make your back strain too much and cause pain.

-Hereditary factors: Some causes of back pain, such as Ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis that affects the vertebral spine, may have a genetic component.

-Have other diseases: Some types of arthritis and cancer could cause back pain.

-Do some types of work: Lifting, pushing and pulling at the same time that the spine twists can cause pain back. If you work at a desk all day and do not sit down right, you may also have back pain.

-Smoking: If you smoke, your body may not be able to carry enough nutrients to the disks of the back. A smoking cough can cause back pain. It takes more time for smokers to recover, so the back pain could last longer.

-Another factor is a race: For example, black women have two to three times more likely than caucasian women to have a dislocated disc.

Back pain can have many causes. The problems related to the mechanics of the back itself can cause pain. For example: Injured discs, spasm, muscular tension, herniated disc, injuries caused by sprains, fractures, accidents and falls can result in back pain.

Back pain can also occur along with some other conditions and diseases such as: Scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, arthritis, lumbar stenosis, pregnancy, kidney stones, infections, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, infections, tumors and stress may also cause back pain.
